The first apartments of Horizon College in Heerhugowaard for the temporary stay of foreign students and teachers were taken into use last week.

Horizon College receives international students and teachers every year. The idea for the Bed & Business arose from the need to receive these international guests. Horizon College had been looking for good and affordable housing for their European guests for some time. In the former company building of Belvilla in Heerhugowaard, 12 residential studios and a shared lounge have been realized in the Bed section (600 m²), for a maximum of 24 foreign guests.

In the Business part (1,000 m²) the facilities of a conference center are offered, there are 14 meeting and work spaces available that can be rented out.

The whole is run by MBO students from the Horeca and Facility Services course, under the supervision of teachers. A new initiative where education and practice are closely linked.

Education, training and meetings for Horizon College staff are also held in the multifunctional building, which is set up as a Field Lab*. This saves on costs for external meeting rooms.

Breddels Architecten, in collaboration with ByWalters, has realized the transformation of the former offices into residential studios and the layout of the spaces.

The surroundings of the Bed & Business will be greened, so that the outside area is also an attractive place to stay.

  • An innovative form of learning in which education and practice are closely linked.
